Where should you stay in Seoul? Pick your vibe.
The best neighborhood isn’t the same for everyone. Choose your base around the kind of days you want—and how you plan to get there from the airport.
Myeongdong: easy shopping days
Convenient if your plan includes beauty stores, central sightseeing and lots of shopping bags. It can feel busy and visitor-focused, so give yourself time to explore beyond the main streets.
Hongdae & Yeonnam: cafés and a lively atmosphere
Good if you like indie shops, street energy, coffee and music. Look up the exact walking distance to your accommodation: “Hongdae” covers more than one kind of street.
Jongno & Insadong: classic Seoul on your doorstep
A practical base for palaces, historic neighborhoods and quieter early mornings. Great when your itinerary leans toward walking, architecture and traditional culture.
Gangnam: modern Seoul and south-of-river plans
Consider Gangnam if your plans revolve around southern Seoul, business meetings, shopping or nearby venues. It isn’t the closest base for every palace or northern neighborhood.
Seongsu: cafés, brands and pop-up hunting
Great for a trend-led day out. Staying here makes sense if Seongsu is central to your trip, but check the exact train route to other sightseeing areas before booking.
Before you book, check these 4 things
- Walk to the nearest subway station with your luggage in mind.
- Travel time from your airport arrival terminal and actual landing time.
- Room size, elevator access and check-in policy.
- How late your preferred restaurants, cafes or transit services run.
Keep planning
