Methodology

METHODOLOGY

How KoreaHype rankings work.

Every board tells you what kind of data it uses, when it was updated and whether the order comes from a source or from KoreaHype editorial judgment.

1. Source ranking

When an original source already publishes an ordered ranking, KoreaHype preserves that order. Example: the Olive Young Korea overall sales ranking. We capture a limited snapshot — rank, brand, product identity, displayed price and original product link — rather than copying product descriptions, reviews or imagery.

2. Survey ranking

Survey-based boards show the metric used by the survey. Our K-food board, for example, uses the share of overseas respondents who reported eating each dish during the prior year. We do not relabel that as restaurant popularity.

3. Chart snapshot

Music boards are dated snapshots of a specified platform or chart. A YouTube Korea board means YouTube activity in South Korea; it does not claim to represent Spotify, Apple Music, streaming downloads and radio combined.

4. Editorial list

Some travel content has no single honest “popularity ranking.” For those pages, KoreaHype creates an editorial order from credible source pools such as official Korea Tourism Organization must-visit selections and international-traveler recommendations. The page is explicitly labeled editorial.

5. Rank movement

For recurring boards, ▲N means an item moved up N places, ▼N means it moved down, NEW means it was absent from the previous saved Top 10, and — means no movement or no previous comparison is available.

6. English titles and links

Korean titles may be shortened or translated by KoreaHype for international readability. Unless stated otherwise, those are KoreaHype translations rather than official English product titles. Retail products link to the original product page.

Global demand research

Our category priorities are informed by public research such as the 2026 Overseas Hallyu Survey and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s global Hallyu media/social-data analysis. We use those studies to decide what readers are likely to care about; we do not convert survey percentages into fake search volumes.

Independence & corrections

KoreaHype is independent and is not affiliated with listed retailers, brands or public organizations unless explicitly disclosed. Rankings can change after publication. When a source cannot be verified, we prefer leaving a board unchanged rather than publishing an invented update.
